Maroc – Morocco

I received these Morocco postcards from Fadwa in Egypt back in 2006 :)) and these are the only postcards from that country in my collection… I don’t know if I will receive more in future, it’s not very likely as I don’t particularly know any Postcrosser from Morocco. Anyway, Maroc is French for Morocco, and Maghribi is its Arabic name.

“Dunes de Merzouga”. Or the dunes of Merzouga.. what are dunes anyway?A dunes is a sand hill formed by the wind, usually in desert regions. Among the dunes there are several oasis and you can easily get water just by digging a little.

“Cascades d’Ouzoud” or the Ouzoud Fall is a 110m-high waterfall located in the province of Azilal in Morocco. This is sure an amazing view you can see in a country where there are also hot deserts!

“Koutoubia” is what written on the card, I am not sure if it has anything to do with this horse card but it’s actually the name of the Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakech. Seen here is the 69m-height minaret of the mosque, which was constructed in 1184-1199.

“La Medersa ben Youssef” or Ben Youssef Madrasa, was an Islamic college in Marrakech, founded in the 14th century and used to be the largest madrasa in Morocco. It was closed in 1960 and reopened to public as a historical site in 1982.

“Jardins de Majorelle” or The Majorelle Garden is a botanical garden in Marrakech designed by a French expatriate artist Jacques Majorelle in 1924 during the French colonization in Morocco. The garden was owned by designer Yves Saint-Laurent since 1980, and houses Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech that keeps Laurent’s collection of North Arfican textiles, ceramics and jewelry.

Parrots in Brazil

Hmm and I haven’t even put Brazil here, what have I been doing?? Okay I found some cool cards from Brazil, with colorful parrots on them :D I don’t know if parrots are the official bird of the country, or they’re originated from there, or they can be seen everywhere in Brazil like you see cows in the Netherlands (random guess yeah, but I got 2 official cards from NL that show cows alone! :P) I don’t know what is the most familiar animal representing Malaysia though… is it orangutan? Monkey? Hahaha. But you can get at least 10 postcards showing those primates from here, so I guess I am quite right.

I am not sure if the parrot is really sitting there or this is a photoshopped image, but this Iguassu Fall is sure breathtakingly breautiful! It’s located in the Iguazu National Park which is best known for its waterfalls and birdlife. This park is one of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

Let’s go back to Pantanal for bit more details. Pantanal is a Portuguese term for swamp, or wetland. It’s a huge ecosystem area spanning mostly within Brazil, and also Bolivia and Paraguay and is home to 1000 bird species, 400 fish species, 300 mammalian species, and 480 reptile species. It has also been listed as UNESCO world heritage site.
