Praha – Prague

This is my quick update on the blog before my mood for it dies completely. I contantly wish for a peace of mind and good mood to blog about my beloved postcards, which lately I can’t seem to find any. Well, Czech Republic is one of the countries in the world which has the prettiest capital city, needless to say Prague is one of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

From Martinas. The view of Vltava river with Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathederal in sight. And pretty birds in sight :)

From Stanislav. This is an amazing view of the Old Town Square in Prague, and the highest gothic building should be the Church of Our Lady before Týn. The church  with the impressive two spires was founded in 1385.

From Adeleide. This view is so much the place I’m dying to be in!! It’s the BEAUTIFULLEST sight from the Vltava river with the castles and all like in the first postcard, but here we can see the Charles Bridge, and what makes this picture in this amazing atmosphere must be because it’s taken during a winter night. With a little lights, oh I really really wish to be in this place at this particular season and particular time!

From Stanislav, another breathtaking view of the Old Town Square in Prague. I just can’t help wondering, how can a beautiful place like this be empty??

Ayutthaya

This is perhaps the Angkor Wat of Thailand, or perhaps another great earliest civilization in the Indochina. Ayutthaya Kingdom was founded in 1350 by King U-Thong, but in 1767 the city was destroyed by the Burmese army, and the ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya historical park which is now one of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

From Fadanothai. There are many temples here and ancient ruins as Ayutthaya was the former capital of Siam before Bangkok. In this card is a view of peaceful morning at Wat Mondop in Ayutthaya.

From Fadanothai. Shown here is Wat Chaiwattanaram temple. It seems this city still preserves water transportation very well, no wonder the temples and houses are built by the river side. There used to be time even in this Malay land region where people were only depending on river to move from a place to another. I have seen it only in Malay old movies, they used to produce films showing lifestyle in the villages where people’s main vehicle was nothing but a small boat. But unfortunately here I hardly see water transportation is preserved anymore like in Ayutthaya.

Half-timbered houses

Okay, it’s Friday and I have to spend some time making a few entries of postcards. These are neat half-timbered houses in Germany, which remind me the Colmar Tropicale French resort in Bukit Tinggi I went sometime in 2007.. but wait, it’s French and not German. Hmm but nevermind. I will dig for French houses later, but in the meantime here are German ones which I love :)

DE-54043 from Regina. Last time I made an entry about an official postcard from Portugal showing a narrow path between buildings, well this one gives the same atmosphere. This area belongs to a town of Quedlinburg, which is located north of the Harz mountains. And this medieval old town was listed in the UNESCO world heritage site. Speaking of UNESCO sites, I recently spent some time to look up the list trying to recognize the places name if I actually have received a card from there. So I have come up with this page where I have highlighted the ones I have got postcards from. I think I have some more which I first have to check from the postcards. And yeah, with this page list I am hereby motivated to look for more UNESCO cards! :) Let me know if you can help my collection to grow!

From Saline. I really really want to be in a place like this!!! It’s a street scene in Ahrweiler with those half-timbered houses from the past century. It just gives a romantic look, but Saline says the rooms inside half-timbered houses are as small as the windows are.

From Muffins, showing her hometown of Kelkheim.

From Padme_chandra. Aren’t the houses adorable?? :) These are different kinds of half-timbered houses found in several places in Germany. And the one from Gottingen (second column, second row) dates back from the 13th century.
