Copenhagen

Two of my postcards from Denmark are actually the same place in Copenhagen with photos taken from different angle (see in these postcards the buildings are identical). It’s a historical canal harbor or quarter called Nyhavn (New Harbor) and one of the most visited places in Copenhagen.

From Smist. This was the first card I received from Denmark (Jan 2006) which she sent along with a mix CD.

From Seglare. I knew her living and studying in Finland and now that she returned to Denmark she just had to send me her first card from there! :)

Mails from Chile

I have got two wonderful Chile cards so far, which makes me feel blessed enough. Unlike Brazil, I don’t get to come across many Postcrossers from Chile in the forum hence the less chances to get a piece of postcard from there. And I have to say my two Chile postcards are GREAT!

Lukwa sent me these scarily funny looking statues in the Easter Island (Rapa Nui) which are called Moai. They are human figures carved from rocks between year 1250 and 1500 AD. This brilliant postcard made me recall that I used to see an image of these statutes in my childhood book.. hmm no wonder they look familar. And now that I am writing this I just have to go and dig out the book to check! :P *will be back in seconds*.

Hahaha now this is getting more interesting. How could I forget that I used to have the knowledge about Easter Island when I was 7 years old?? :D Okay, it’s fun to read again the article in a simple Malay for kids which I translate into English here.

Easter Island which is located in the South Pacific is a volcanic island founded by a Dutch sailor Jacob Roggeveen. This island which is founded in year 1722 is 17.1km long and 8.05 km wide. A weird thing about this island is the rows of head figures made of rock, which were built facing the sea. Who made these figures and when they built them, nobody knows. These figures were built with volcanic rock and their heights are between 266cm to 610cm. Some of the heads wear a hat made of red colored volcanic lava.

Read more about Moai. I find it really interesting.

Okay and my second card from Chile came from Oriana. It shows the beautiful Valparaiso city, one of South America’s busiest Pacific Ocean ports and a major tourist stop off. It has rich architecture composition with colorful houses (so pretty!) and needless to say this city is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage.

Venezia – Venice

I was checking the postcards from the last batch found. I said found because oh, I don’t know why this happened to me again. I was abroad for 1.5 months and when I came home, all I had to do was to SEARCH my own postcards which had arrived during my absence. Because nobody at home cared about my postcards so they were anywhere they could be placed.OK back to this bunch of cards I noticed a neat Venice card but I can’t scan it now because the scanner is still unexistent. But I went to dig out my box (and tell you what, I started grouping my postcards according to country so it’s easier for me to find a postcard again – lol my postcards are well more organized than my bedroom!). Anyways. Venice postcards, so I was counting, and I have actually received 7 Venice all this while hahaha :) Let’s see the views of this breathtakingly beautiful city..

Venice 1 from Lilo. The real Venice, as it pictures here: lots of water, bridges and and people walking. The farthest bridge is called the Bridge of Sighs, because it connects the Doge’s palace to the prisons, so the prisoners used to take their final view of Venice, and sigh when crossing it. Hmm, scary.

Venice 2 from Lilo again. This is the marvellous Piazza San Marco, a famous square with its church Basilica di San Marco.

Venice 3 from Lilo again. A real romantic view with traditional Venerial boat – it’s called Gondola. The small rivers in Venice are called Rio, and the narrow streets are Calle, and the squares are Campo.

Venice 4 from Lilo again. Okay I must admit I was in a mission of seeking Venice postcards back then and luckily had Lilo as my postcard pal. This is another breathtaking view from the Piazza San Marco showing the church Santa Maria della Salute.

Venice 5. Oh how I wish I was in that boat :) This card was sent from old postcard pal Drs_dolittle from Belgium, she bought the card during her vacation to Venice, which according to her it looked like you ended up in a fairytale. Wonderful.

Sigh, I really want to see myself in Venice! Hmm.. *dreaming away*
