Skopje.. and Postcard Friendship Friday! :D

HI! I knew about Postcard Friendship Friday from Ana‘s blog, so I have been following Marie‘s blog since, and I have always wanted to join PFF but before I knew it I had always missed my Fridays! However I just came back from a beach this morning (had some lovely star-seeing last night) so I thought I’d make use of my Friday now :D Hmm, but which card to choose for my first PFF post? You bet, I’ll feature a Macedonia postcard from Ana this time… coz if it wasn’t from her blog, I wouldn’t have come to PFF. YAY!

From Anagahan, with a view from her hometown Skopje. If you see this as just another typical city view postcard of Skopje, you’re wrong :) Coz what makes this card really appealing to me, is the fact that Ana wrote to me in 100% Croatian! :P Okay, for some unfunny reason I used to try learning Croatian (or Bosnian if you prefer) years ago but never actually made too much effort on that… but at least I can understand what the message says! Well, sort of. I mean, let’s say, you already knew a few words by default like “zdravo”.. “učis”.. “znaš”.. “zivim”.. “razglednica”.. “reku”.. “most”.. “pozdrava”.. and that’s actually enough for you to just simply figure out that the message should be more or less, “Hello! .. blablabla.. when you wrote that you’re learning Croatian.. blablabla.. like you already know, I live in Skopje, and this postcard shows Vadar River (?) (the most-something in Macedonia) and Kamen bridge.. which is ??? one of the most–something historical (something).. blablabla.. greetings” See? I can understand it! Anyway, after a proper check from dictionary: the river most-longest in Macedonia, and the bridge which is one of the most significant historical sights :) Alright, I am a hopeless lazy language learner but still it’s fun to challange myself to read messages like this! And oh, sorry, a PFF post shouldn’t be a linguistic post… but Happy PFF everyone!! :)

Madrid

I haven’t actually featured postcards from the capital of Spain, and I’m quite surprised that I haven’t received alot from there compared to Paris. I used to have this thought in my mind that Spanish postcrossers are more than French postcrossers, and my official postcards came from Spain more than France in comparision. I guess. Or maybe I’m wrong. Hmm.. anyways. Here is Madrid.

From Aqualarre, showing Puente de Segovia (Segovia Bridge) in Madrid, which connects Calle Segovia with Paseo de Extremadura and it’s one of the main entrances to the city. The bridge was built in 1582 by King Felipe 2. Seen here also are Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace from afar.

From Aqualarre. I love it when I can relate two or more cards in a chain-relation, or whatever it can be called, like the one I did with 3 Budapest cards before. Now you can see this card inside the previous card :) with a closer look of Almudena Cathedral.

I can’t remember who the sender of this card was, it’s a plain card, perhaps from the time I was doing little exchange before Postcrossing, though at that time I didn’t really have this much interest in postcards, just an excuse to receive mails and keep something from abroad. So this is Casa de la Villa (Town Hall), one of the oldest plazas located in Plaza de la Villa in the old section of Madrid.

Lisboa – Lisbon

I suddenly remember of Portugal and realized that Lisbon is still missing from this blog. Yeah though it’s impossible for me to make entries of ALL postcards in my collection, at least one from a capital city should be here. I have got some neat ones here to show.

PT-11839 from Grilo. The picture shows Elevador da Bica, the steepest furnicular in Lisbon which has run between Cais Sodre and Chiado since 1892. Even the neighborhood in this area are standing well on this steep area. I always love narrow streets like this. If I ever go to Portugal, this must be one of the places to be in!

From Joaninha showing Ponte 25 de Abril (the 25th of April Bridge) which connects Almada and Lisboa crossing Tejo river. It was constructed in 1966 and in 1999 a train platform was added.

From Tp_simoes. Lisboa has this place for great sight seeing called Miradouro de Santa Luzia (the terrace of Santa Luzia), where from this place you can have a view of houses, churches, and the Tagus River in Alfama. On this romantic terrace there’s also a good café for a drink.

PT-16740 from Laura. This is the Belém Tower, a UNESCO Heritage site which was built nearby Tajus river as a fortress in the 16th century to commemorate Vasco da Gama’s expedition. Now it’s a monument open to visitors. The tower is 35m high and has four storeys and a terrace that offers wonderful views of the surrounding landscape.

From Soniaalmeida. This last Lisboa card to show here is actually the first card I received from Lisboa, back in 2005. This decent arcades in Terreiro Do Paço have plenty of good restaurants and traditional coffee houses where some famous Portuguese writers used to spend their time.
