Birthday cards 2009!

I never thought I would still be receiving birthday cards from Postcrossers this year, I mean, after the long hiatus last year and awkward comeback I hardly knew many people anymore in the beginning, but who would have thought, some neat buddies on the forum have been kind enough and instantly become dear friends I wish I had known them much earlier :) (and you know who you are :)) Well, these are some cards, arrived to celebrate my so-called birthday this year. I am happy to say they have really brightened my day and made me so special in a way that there do exist people out there who care enough to write so lovely wishes on pretty cards despite that they’re far away from me! So MY DEARS, READ THIS: I LOVE YOU!! :)

OK this is not from Postcrosser at least. My dearest penpal Sonia whose letters had failed to reach me these past few years, but after over one year, she replied my letter again and with this lovely card recently. In fact, throughout our friendship, she has always remembered my birthday.. although I didnt manage to remember hers this much! :/

From Anagahan. So this is the first birthday card from a Postcrosser arrived this year, and I am glad it came from a dear friend of GTKY. Thanks Ana, if you ever read this, you know you’ve been special to me! :)

From Wilma. HAHAHA I LOVE this card for my birthday!! :D It’s a real surprise from Arja-Liisa, she’s such a sweetie! Hugs to you! See my other cards of Kaj Stenval’s art here.

From Cockie. Though it’s actually a return card of birthday card I had sent to her friend (which I found a really wonderful way to cheer a friend!!), but knowing that I was having my birthday to come, Mieko also wrote this card as a birthday wish to me. Thanks so much for this pretty card!!

From Hadassah. HAHA Essi!! Are these you and me in the picture, perhaps in our 70s, celebrating our birthday together? On a tree! LOL it doesn’t look too bad! :D :D And thanks dear for this lovely wishes that cheered me up! Big hugs!

From Lauraarual. Another sweet friend of GTKY sent me a lovely birthday wish on this colorful card :)) I can’t be happier! And Laura included some lovely gifts and Holland souvenir, thanks so much – you’re so kind!! :) *hugs!*

AHAHA I’m sorry others, but I have to say this is the coolest birthday card I ever got! :P Well yeah at least for a second I really thought I was smart and popular and good-looking as the card says! :P LOL I didnt know 20th June was a lucky day either :)) but every day is a lucky day when you’re born that day! ;) Thanks Carol for your lovely thoughts! I have freaking turned 26 today. I don’t want to talk much about it. But being a Postcrosser, there’s always something to make me smile on my birthday!

No, it’s not the cake!! But cards!! :D Yes, the lovely Postcrossers have always cheered me up regardless I hate the fact that I get older on birthdays! :) In this post I would like to thank a heaven to everyone who spent some time writing and sending me your lovely wishes, you have no idea how much it means to me!! :) BIG BIG HUGS!!! (well yeah, I’m featuring cards from past years first, as this is officially the first birthday post for this blog – which only started this year – and in a few days I’ll be posting the cards which I have got for this year’s birthday :)). And actually, I have put several other birthday cards that had already fit in regular posts before, and they are equally special to me as well!!

OKAY that was a postcards SPAM -______- but I can’t help it coz I did receive alot of birthday cards in past years!! (and of course, a portion of them are thanks to the fact that I put a “tiny advert” about my birthday on my forum signature once, well, hence those expected surprises :P and a few from Birthday tags and RR as well.. so I did not receive all these merely because I am a total celebrity or anything :D though it’s good if I were one lol). And still my dear friends Postcrossers, you are the best!!

Postcard Scavenger Hunt: Drying fish!

Apart of the Malaysian postcards sent by my fellow Malaysian Postcrossers in tags, I think I would also love to share with you some rare old postcards which I guess were published in the 1970s and 80s. I mean, I go to a shop where they sell some old postcards.. I can find many bulks of postcards with different pictures.. and suddenly I spot one card which is unique of its picture, I mean, there’s only ONE card there with that very picture.. I can’t find any other.. and of course it’s yellowed and old.. but to me this vintage card is a treasure!!! :D

So my first treasure here is a view in some fisherman village here in the East Coast. I am not sure if in other countries they do fish drying, but here dried salted fish seem to be crucial, as they can be kept for a very long time! Plus, they are always ready to fast-serve by either fry or grill.

Melaka – Malacca

YAY for another Malaysian postcards entry! :D Here comes Melaka – or Malacca if you prefer.. I don’t know what makes Melaka has an English name while Malaysia doesn’t.. and it seems in postcards they like to write Malacca than Melaka. Then again ALL postcards published in Malaysia have descriptions or labels in English.. yikes. Everything is written “Greetings from Malaysia”, you won’t ever find one written “Salam dari Malaysia”.. or “Apa Khabar dari Malaysia”. Boring, isn’t it? Obviously, postcards here are ONLY for foreign tourists, not local people.

From Aliah. This is the Malacca River near the Dutch Square (see the red buildings – and at the back is the Staddhuys from1650 which used to be the official administration during the Dutch colonization and housed the quarters of its governors and officers). I am not sure if there are boats like this crusing the river nowadays.

From Newrule. The huge ship is actually the Maritime Museum, was built in early 1990 as a replica of Flor de La Mar, the Portuguese galleon. The middle picture is a closeup of the clock tower in the Dutch Square, and the other picture is the Tanjung Bidara beach.

From Newrule. More views of Malacca, including the bullock cart, and A Famosa, the ancient Portuguese Fortress from the 15th century.

From Ketupat. A humble yet elegant trishaw in Malacca, still functioning as an important public transport.

From Imajica!! :D Yes, I sent myself this postcard when I was a short trip to Malacca in 2007. I always love bullock carts.. or “Kereta lembu” how we call it (literally translates to Cow car). It used to be a mode of transportation in the past, but nowadays they just take tourists for a ride around the town square. And see the WHEEL! :) Therefore I can sign up this post for A Festival of Postcards!!!

Random Act of Smileness for Postcards Friendship Friday

Postcrossers are known to be lovely buddies who love to make people smile for no reason! :) My very first postcard I received for Random Act of Smileness in the forum was sent by no-one but dear Chat Noir. I know I have featured many postcards from him in this blog.. then again he’s on no #2 in the ranking of the contributors for my bigass postcards collection.. I think I have received over 20 cards from Chat Noir alone, but among those bunch, I can’t help showing off this particular lovely card that really put a BIG smile on my face…. I swear it really did. :))

Not only this card was a real surprise, but it was much much more than wonderful to make me the happiest person on earth just the moment I looked at the back of the card….

Sorry, I know I should not scan the sender’s message BUT I can’t help showing off this!!! XD XD XD And it came as my first RAS postcard!! I simply had a crush on Chat Noir because of this special postcard… ahhahaha.. but I have no idea why he left Postcrossing now…. sigh. I didn’t finally have a chance to meet him even though we planned it twice.. lol… long stories..

Okay so this post is dedicated to Chat Noir and my fellow Malaysian Postcrossers, you really know how to rock!! HAHA and we’ve been a good family, no? :)

Danga Bay

Hmm I almost forgot to feature postcards from Malaysia despite that I received more Malaysian postcards than Germany and Netherlands postcards.. thanks to MY-tag and the fact that my fellow Malaysian postcrossers love to send me postcards sometimes just for fun :) Well, here in Malaysia nobody sends postcards unless they’re Postcrossers!

From Newrule. Danga Bay or Teluk Danga is a new waterfront city and the largest recreational park in of Johor… perfect for hangout, and there are food places to dine.

From Newrule also.. well who else would send me a postcard from Johor?? ;) :P And this is another view of Danga Bay.. I can tell it’s somewhere near the waterfront.. I am not sure if it has a beach.. but it looks like a good place for a walk :)

Truly Malaysia

Malaysian Postcrossers are really cool! I am saying this not that because I am one, but they are really great at making me happy :) I love my fellow Malaysian Postcrossers in the forum. There has been this MY-tag in our Bahasa Melayu community forum where we can tag each other and send local postcard! And don’t be surprised if I tell you, in my Postcrossing collection Malaysian postcards are the 3rd most received after Finland and USA. Yep, even they beat Germany and the Netherlands! LOL. I’m so proud of you, Malaysian postcrossers! Here’s few of their cards I would really love to share, and others can be seen in this Flickr set.

This is Kelantanese Rebana Ubi (giant drum) from Aliah. I live in Kelantan myself but never found this card, sigh. This is an old image probably taken in the Gelanggang Seni (Culture Field) here in Kota Bharu. You can come and see the Rebana show regularly held in here.

Melaka multiviews from Newrule, showing Malacca Fort, Malacca house, Bullock carts and the cultural meseum. Oh if you must know Melaka has been listed in UNESCO Heritage Site since last year. Aliah and I visited Melaka with her in 2007 and it was great!

Ketupat sent me this card with Rambutan fruits on a bike. Do you have Rambutan in your country? It’s really juicy and sweet – gotta love it!

Art card from Chat_noir with lovely painting showing Malay girl. I don’t know where he found this kind of cards, as I hardly find art cards in here or KL when I was there. Or maybe I didn’t search hard enough.

Ubudiah Mosque from Charlie_dale. This is one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia, I can be sure of this because I’ve been there once! Postcardswise, this mosque has got more of its pictures printed as postcards than any other mosque in Malaysia.

This is a squid! Giant squid! Or actually, it writes here Broadclub cuttlefish. Maybe in Sabah underwater you can find this creature. Borneo postcards are really something and we’re lucky to have Gundohingnick there to send us postcards :)

HAHAHA. Reggie Lee comic cards are my favorite! Though it’s real hard to find them in my place. Thanks Rosnah for sending this piece to me. Poor these jobless rockers.. “No Lepaking” is (maybe) Malaysian English for No Loitering. You know.. sit in a group somewhere doing practically nothing.
